El Cerrito Senior Center Feasibility Study
Urban Planning / Design
These basic programming and massing studies were conducted for economists to determine whether a joint city-developer venture would be finanically feasible--a well designed senior center with a specified service capacity. Given the City's zoning standards and desired unit sizes, several models were developed that embodies best-practices of senior housing design. The building is oriented to maximize sunlight; the open space is private but has high visibility to ensure safety; common areas are centralized to minimizing walking distances; the center is visible from the major street, and public parking is separated from private parking.
